The Port of Trois-Rivières celebrates its 140th anniversary!

Trois-Rivières – On May 17, 1882, the bill creating the Port of Trois Rivières was passed. For the Port’s team, this was the perfect date to officially launch the organization’s 140th anniversary festivities. “This is extremely significant for us. When you think about it, on this same date 140 years ago, the Port’s official existence began,” said Gaétan Boivin, President and CEO of the Port of Trois-Rivières.

For the occasion, more than 200 close partners of the Port from the maritime, political, socio-economic and community sectors, from all regions of Quebec, will be gathered at a cocktail party to celebrate 140 years of history. “The community that gravitates around the Port of Trois-Rivières is numerous and attached to the organization. We are honoured by their presence,” said Danielle St-Amand, Chair of the Board of Directors.

Throughout the event, dignitaries will share testimonials highlighting the anniversary and the Port’s contribution to the economic and social development of the region, Québec and Canada. The evening will culminate in an auction of three works by artist Caroline St-Pierre, including one specially created to mark the 140th anniversary. As the Port has acquired the works, the total amount of the sale will be donated to premiers quartiers organizations chosen by the buyers.

A diverse program of activities will be offered throughout the year to mark this 140th anniversary. From June 29 to February 2023, the Tribute to the St. Lawrence collection (Hommage au Saint-Laurent), acquired in 2019, will be on display at the Pierre Boucher Museum and will be accessible to everyone free of charge. A much sought-after event will also be back. It is the open house that will be held on September 17. On this occasion, the public will be invited to visit the Port’s facilities and meet representatives of the companies that work in the Port.

Then, on August 27, an activity will be reserved for port workers to highlight their essential contribution to the Port’s success, while on November 29, customers will have the opportunity to attend. “It is very important for us to highlight and celebrate with our partners and workers as part of our festivities, since they are the ones who, on a daily basis, ensure the operations of the terminals, making our Port a facility that stands out,” explained Mr. Boivin. The greening of the port facilities will also continue this year with the planting of 140 trees and shrubs. Finally, contests and video clips will be broadcast on various platforms, recounting the history of the Port, as well as its special characteristics and a few anecdotes!

For 140 years, the Port of Trois-Rivières, in collaboration with its partners, has contributed directly to the regional and national vitality, both through the goods that it handles and its financial and volunteer involvement in the community. “We want the Port of Trois-Rivières to be a source of pride, especially for the people of Trois-Rivières, and this is what motivates us every day to always do better. We hope that the 140th anniversary activities, by introducing people to the Port in different ways, will help create or reinforce this pride,” concluded Mr. Boivin.
