The Honourable Adam van Koeverden, Secretary of State (Sport), has announced on behalf of the Honourable Gary Anandasangaree, Minister of Public Safety, the licence approval in principle for a new Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) sufferance warehouse located at the Port of Hamilton, Ontario.
A sufferance warehouse is a privately owned and operated facility licensed by the CBSA for the short-term storage and examination of imported goods. The facility only receives and releases cargo that has undergone the appropriate health, safety, and security examinations by the CBSA prior to its arrival at the warehouse.
This new licence approval in principle will ease bottlenecks at our ports of entry by providing additional space for CBSA Border Services Officers to examine goods upon importation. When the final verification of regulatory and program requirements are confirmed, the CBSA will officially issue the licence for the Hamilton Container Terminal’s facility, located at Pier 18 in Hamilton.
The CBSA is committed to working with the Hamilton Container Terminal and HOPA Ports, in order to enable Canada’s trade economy to grow and compete in international markets while also improving efficiencies for CBSA operations.
