Updated route and service schedules confirm that Netherlands-based Nirint Shipping earlier this month removed Halifax from the northbound leg of its Europe-Cuba-Canada fortnightly service. The service now concentrates on connecting Europe with Cuba.
Nirint had been serving the Port of Halifax on a regular trade route since late 2002 with vessels carrying containers, breakbulk, project and heavy lift cargo. Until recently, such ships as the Augusta Luna and the Gotland, with container capacities of 630 TEUs, called at the Nova Scotia maritime gateway.
Under a revised schedule, the Nirint service operates under the following rotation: Villagarcia, Bilbao, Rotterdam, Mariel, Moa and back to Villagarcia.
