This winter 2024-2025 issue of Maritime Magazine marks a historic occasion, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the creation of a unique, bilingual, quarterly trade publication devoted to the maritime, multimodal, logistics industry across Canada. And we salute this moment by launching a new look design of great visual appeal to complement the editorial content.
In keeping with tradition, there is the annual overview of cargo and infrastructure investment trends in the bi-national Great Lakes/St. Lawrence System – which, incidentally, does not fail to contain references to the concerns of industry executives over the tariff agenda potentially impacting Canada of the incoming Trump Administration.
Secondly, one finds an in-depth summary of highlights of the 2024 Arctic shipping season by a select group of Canadian carriers supplying the remote communities and mining companies in the Far North. We feel much pride in the activities of our shipping pioneers in a region where huge challenges need to be addressed to protect Canada’s sovereignty and the life style of the First Nations peoples and marine species.
Of special interest, too, in this issue is the introduction of two prominent new leaders in the maritime industry. Demetrios “Jim” Athanasiou has contributed his first Seaway Journal column as the new chief executive of the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation. And there is an exclusive interview of Saul Polo, the recently appointed new General Manager of the St. Lawrence Shipoperators.
