Statistics released today by the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation confirm a declining traffic trend, with total cargo down 7.65% at 15.7 million tonnes in the period to end July.
Dry bulk and liquid bulk were up respectively 5.5% and 20.9% but all other cargo categories were down, although there was a moderate increase of 30 in vessel transits at 1,791 for the same period.
All grain declined by nearly 20% at 3.4 million tonnes, iron ore down 17.5% at 2.9 million tonnes, coal down 21% at 742,000 tonnes, and general cargo down 14% at 1.4 million tonnes. (CSL photo of CSL Welland)
