Ocean Group acquiring new tugboat for Jamaican operations

Ocean Group of Quebec City and Med Marine have signed a contract for a 25 m, 75 TBP new state-of-the-art ER97 vessel. The tugboat, designed by Robert Allan Ltd. exclusively for Med Marine, was chosen by Ocean Group for its versatile, multi-purpose, compact and state-of-the-art ASD design which features efficient ship-handling, coastal towing, and other general purpose towing capabilities.

Delivery is set for Dec. 15, 2021 and once delivered, the ER97 will be operating at the port of Kingston, Jamaica, where Ocean has developed a major presence in the past few years.

“We’ve been in dialogue with Ocean Group for many years, and it is such joy to have a contract in place with them. We wish that this will be the beginning of a long partnership.” said Melis Ucuncu, Sales Manager of Med Marine.

This tug has a beam of 12 m and maximum depth of 5.75 m, two Caterpillar’s Cat 3516C main engines, driving two Kongsberg US 255S P30 thrusters with fixed-pitch propellers which will generate 75 tonnes of bollard pull.

In the engineroom there is a Caterpillar C4.4 generator set, while on deck a THR Marine EFTW towing winch provides 300 KN of pull. It can accommodate seven people and has a top speed of 12 knots. (Image Med Marine)
