Quebec City – Green Marine today released its 2025 Performance Report, which provides an unprecedented overview of the environmental progress made by more than 170 ship owners, ports, terminals, and shipyards across North America and internationally. Unveiled at the 19th annual Green Marine conference, GreenTech 2026, being held at the Quebec City Convention Centre, this report highlights measurable results in the areas of emissions reduction, biodiversity protection, and social acceptability.
“It is symbolic that we are unveiling this 2025 Performance Report just a stone’s throw from where Green Marine was launched nearly 20 years ago,” said David Bolduc, the President and CEO of Green Marine International, which now oversees the Green Marine and Green Marine Europe certification programs.
The program has grown from about 30 pioneers in the St. Lawrence and Great Lakes maritime industry to more than 220 participants in a dozen countries: Canada, the United States, eight European nations, Mexico, the Bahamas, and Australia.
“This global reach far exceeds the goals we had in 2007,” Mr. Bolduc noted.
Year after year, participants must demonstrate a tangible improvement in their performance to maintain their certification. For the 2025 results, the overall average exceeded Level 3 for the first time since 2017, rising from 2.9 to 3.1. The 2025 Performance Report presents, indicator by indicator, the results achieved by participants on a scale of 1 to 5, based on increasingly stringent criteria.
In particular, it highlights high levels of performance in the areas of air emissions management, preventing aquatic invasive species, reducing underwater noise, and strengthening relationships with local communities.
“This report clearly demonstrates that the maritime sector doesn’t just comply with regulations: it actively chooses to go further, faster, and to prove it publicly,” David Bolduc continued.
Beyond the numerical results, the 2025 report reflects Green Marine’s evolution into Green Marine International, expanding into new regions and industry segments with the addition of participants in Europe, Oceania, and the Americas. This expansion reflects the growing interest in a common, independent, and verifiable framework for measuring and improving environmental performance year over year.
The 2025 Performance Report builds on this momentum and confirms the program’s strength as a driver of sustainable transformation.
