Evergreen Marine Corporation of Taiwan has placed an order for 11 new LNG dual-fuel containerships of 24,000 TEUs capacity at South Korean and Chinese shipyards. Total cost is estimated at US$3 billion.
Priced between $265m and $295m each, six are to be built by South Korean shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean and five at Guangzhou Shipyard International in China. Deliveries are slated to begin around 2028. They will join a dozen 24,000 TEU vessels in the Evergreen fleet.
With this latest order, the Taiwanese shipowner has switched from methanol-fueled containerships ordered in 2023 and 2024.
Evergreen’s orderbook now stands at 821,423 TEUs – the fifth-largest after MSC, CMA CGM, Cosco, and Maersk, and represents 46% of its active fleet.
