Brent McGovern appointed new Chief Operating Officer of Port Saint John

Port Saint John announces the appointment of Brent McGovern as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective January 26, 2026. Mr. McGovern joins the organization following a distinguished 20-year career at the City of Saint John, where he most recently held the role of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).

During his tenure with the City of Saint John, Mr. McGovern provided leadership to a team of over 600 employees, managed a $225 million annual operating budget, and oversaw more than $50 million in annual capital investments. Notably, he successfully delivered the Safe, Clean Drinking Water Project, recognized as the largest municipal infrastructure initiative in New Brunswick’s history, which was completed on time and under budget. In addition to his public sector experience, he has held senior positions in the private sector, including his role at Suez Environment in Los Angeles, where he was responsible for managing all operational aspects including the operation of the world’s most advanced water recycling facility.

Craig Bell Estabrooks, President & CEO of Port Saint John, expressed enthusiasm about Mr. McGovern’s appointment, stating, “Brent’s 27 years of experience in both the private and public sectors are going to be a tremendous asset to our growing gateway. We’re thrilled to welcome Brent to our leadership team and look forward to benefitting from his deep operational expertise and proven track record of delivering results.”

As COO, Mr. McGovern’s responsibilities will include operations, finance, and infrastructure portfolios, contributing to the organization’s strategic direction as a key member of the leadership team. Joining Port Saint John at a time of dynamic growth and transformation, McGovern is positioned to help guide the gateway into its next era of success.
