Last stretch home for Ontario electric ferrys built in Romania

The 98-meter-long Wolfe Islander IV with a capacity to carry 399 passengers and 83 cars will be deployed in Ontario between Kingston and Wolfe Island. With the Amherst Islander II measuring 70.4 metres for a capacity of up to 42 cars and 300 passengers, they are the Island Classe ferrys, built at the Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania. The ships equipped with batteries and designed for fully electric operation are also equipped with hybrid technology that bridges the gap until shore-based charging infrastructure is available. From exterior details to the engines, the design of the new vessels reduces radiated underwater noise, reduces emissions and improves the passenger experience.

After leaving Romania on August 31 on the Super Servant 4 and arriving in Quebec on September 26, in the early morning of September 28, they were released from the semi-submersible in the estuary of the Saint-Charles river. In our photo, the Wolfe Islander IV arrives at the Quebec Bridge in the direction of Trois-Rivières while the departure of the Amherst Islander II is scheduled for October 5.
