Port of Montreal hailed as one of North America’s most environmentally sustainable

The Port of Montreal was recognized for its exemplary sustainable development practices and environmental performance for the 17th consecutive year by Green Marine, the marine shipping industry’s leading voluntary environmental certification program. The results were presented at the annual GreenTech conference held in Halifax.

Among the 59 participating port authorities, the MPA ranked in the top tier, with a perfect score of 5 out of 5 in several categories: Environmental Leadership, Waste Management, Dry Bulk Handling and Storage, Spill Prevention and Stormwater Management, and Community Relations. The MPA also ranked 4 out of 5 in the category of Air Emissions GHG & Air Pollutants.

“The success of Green Marine’s 2023 certification would not have been possible without the unwavering commitment and hard work of our teams rallying to maintain and surpass our high standards of environmental excellence every year. Thank you to everyone who makes it possible for the Port of Montreal to achieve results that match its ambitions and to keep striving to continuously improve its track record in sustainable development,” said Julie Gascon, President and CEO of the MPA.
