MSC containership adrift off Newfoundland coast

After experiencing engine problems earlier this week, the MSC Kim containership is adrift off the west coast of Newfoundland, the Canadian Coast Guard indicated. No injuries or pollution incidents have been reported. The 4254-TEU vessel was bound for the Port of Montreal.

According to latest reports, Irving-owned Atlantic Towing’s Atlantic Kingfisher has reached the ship in distress after setting out from Stephenville harbour at the request of Mediterranean Shipping Company.

At 11 am today (Thursday), the MSC Kim was reported to be under tow off Cape Anguille, NL and heading for Sydney, Nova Scotia. Accompanying the rescue operation was the Canadian Coast Guard’s icebreaker CCGS Terry Fox. (Canadian Coast Guard photo)
