Ian Hamilton elected Chair of the Association of Canadian Port Authorities

Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority President and CEO Ian Hamilton has been elected chair of the Association of Canadian Port Authorities (ACPA), the national trade association of 17 Canada Port Authorities and leading national port supporters.

“The coming months are important for the future efficiency and competitiveness of Canada’s supply chains, with the anticipated release of a National Supply Chain Strategy, the opening of a Transportation Supply Chain Office at Transport Canada and proposed legislative measures with big implications for the ability of Canada’s port authorities to effectively fulfill their mandates to support Canadian trade, and decarbonization,” said Mr. Hamilton. “I am honoured to be selected to lead ACPA at this critical time.”

Mr. Hamilton takes over from Carl Laberge, president and CEO of the Saguenay Port Authority who served as ACPA chair for the previous two years. The ACPA board thanked Mr. Laberge for his commitment to the organization during the difficult years of the pandemic.

Election of Mr. Hamilton to the role of chair took place during the 2023 Ports Canada Conference, which saw 250 delegates from around Canada and the world gathered in Trois-Rivières, Que. on September 11-13 to discuss top issues of concern to Canada’s port sector leadership.

Also elected to the organization’s Executive Committee were:

  • Ian Marr, president and CEO of the Nanaimo Port Authority, who will serve as the association’s first vice chair.
  • Allan Gray, president and CEO of the Halifax Port Authority, who will serve as the association’s second vice chair.
  • Steve Salmons, president and CEO of the Windsor Port Authority, who will serve as the association’s secretary-treasurer.
  • Pierre Gagnon, president and CEO of the Port of Sept-Îles.
