ACPA welcomes support of Canada’s ports and supply chains in federal budget

As Canada seeks to decarbonize and address its supply chain challenges, the Federal Budget is a clear step in the right direction by announcing important enhancements and supports to Canada’s ports and supply chains. The Association of Canadian Port Authorities (ACPA) said it is pleased to see the government acknowledge key elements that need to be put in place, including support for green shipping corridors; funding and plans for a supply chain office; and a commitment to accelerate project approvals.

Having called for funding to address the complexity of building a Green Shipping Corridor, ACPA welcomes the commitment of $165.4 million over seven years, starting in 2023-24, for Transport Canada to establish a Green Shipping Corridor Program.

Getting the projects and infrastructure built in a timely and sustainable manner that Canada needs to deliver its resources and products to citizens and global consumers is essential. ACPA is also pleased to see the government commit to a concrete plan to improve the efficiency of the impact assessment and permitting processes for major projects.

ACPA looks forward to working with the government to understand the details of these and other initiatives to sustainably innovate Canada’s ports and supply chains, most notably the creation of a Transportation Supply Chain Office and the coming National Supply Chain Strategy being announced in the coming months.
