MSC adds double call at Halifax on its Canada Express 2 service

The Port of Halifax has welcomed the announcement by MSC that it has added a double port call at Halifax and a call at Valencia, Spain in an enhancement of its Western Mediterranean-Canada shipping route that includes Montreal.

“The addition of Halifax will offer Canadian exporters the possibility to export cargo to anywhere in the Mediterranean, as well as to the Middle East, Indian subcontinent, Asia and Oceania via Barcelona and Valencia, two key Mediterranean transshipment hubs,” MSC stated.

“We are pleased that MSC has included Halifax as part of the Canada Express 2 service as the first inbound and last outbound call,” commented Halifax port spokesman Lane Farguson.

“This provides additional global connectivity for the importers and exporters that move goods through our international gateway, especially those Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canadian producers and manufacturers looking to access global markets. We congratulate terminal operator PSA Halifax and CN Rail for their work with MSC, and also recognize the other key port partners, the marine pilots, tug operators and ILA workforce, for their commitment to efficiency and reliability.”

Meanwhile, MSC is revising the Canada Express 1 service rotation by adding calls to Naples, Italy and Marsaxlokk, Malta. This service will no longer call at Valencia, as this is now covered by Canada Express 2. (photo Halifax Port Authority)
