Seaspan joins Green Marine Program
Seaspan Marine Corporation has become the first major West Coast shipowner to join the Green Marine environmental program.
Based in North Vancouver, Seaspan operates more than 150 tugs, ferries and barges. Providing coastal and deepsea transportation, the company also offers bunkering, shiprepair and shipbuilding services.
The firm has entrolled its marine fleet and shipyards in the program. "The inclusion of Seaspan Shipyards also represents another significant FIRST for Seaspan and Green Marine," a press release stated on March 7.
Seaspan chief executive Jonathan Whitworth declared: "Green Marine's philosophy to reduce a company's environmental footprint beyond regulatory compliance mirrors or own company core values. We have implemented a number of initiatives to reduce our fuel consumption and air emissions and we currently have a five-year partnership with World Wildlife Fund in which we work together to identify further opportunities for improvement."
