Maersk upgrades vessels on Canada Express service with North Europe

A.P Moller Maersk Group has announced that two modern vessels, Vistula Maersk and Vayenga Maersk – each of 3,600 TEU capacity – will phase-in Canada Express service (North Europe to/from Canada) to replace existing vessels.
The new vessels are among the world’s largest ice-class containerships, designed specifically for operation in icy water conditions, the carrier said, indirectly referring to the St. Lawrence River trade route.
“Apart from a stronger hull, they are characterized by providing efficiency of intake,” Maersk stated, adding: “This improvement will offer strong support to contract business and end-to-end logistics.”
The ice class vessels’ propeller and rudder design has been optimized for lowest fuel consumption. Further, the vessels will utilize biofuel, which is carbon neutral and is manufactured from recycled sustainable biomass.
“The deployment change will be an important step to provide our Canadian customers with green logistics solutions and achieve our goal of carbon neutrality by 2040,” Maersk said.
