Maersk reports Vancouver with longest dwell times of North American ports

In its weekly ports update, Maersk has reported that Canada’s Port of Vancouver is experiencing the longest vessel wait times of any major ocean port in North America. Vancouver is “Experiencing heavy congestion,” the global shipping line said.

Maersk vessels are waiting 26-28 days to unload, Maersk said. It estimated Vancouver’s yard utilization at 85%, and average rail dwell at seven days.

But the port’s latest report painted a different picture, indicating that the average wait times at anchor or offshore have dropped to 6.6 days versus over 30 days in August.

As of October 19th, the Port of Vancouver reported on-dock footage of 82,418 at Centerm for more than seven days. At Vanterm almost 20,000 feet on CN cars had been there for more than seven days while Deltaport  had 115,317 feet of cars waiting between five and seven days.
