Rimouski – The graduation ceremony for the 79th cohort of the Institut maritime du Québec (IMQ) took place on May 27. In the presence of MNAs Maxime Blanchette-Joncas and Maïté Blanchette Vézina, Rimouski Mayor Guy Caron, families, friends, staff and partners from the maritime industry, fifty-two graduates received their college diplomas in naval architecture, marine mechanical engineering, transportation logistics and navigation.
Twenty-two prizes and bursaries were also awarded, totalling nearly $18,000, thanks to the support of the IMQ Foundation and donations from its partners.
At the ceremony, Leelou Turner, Chair of the 2023 Graduates Committee and a recent graduate in Marine Mechanical Engineering, said: “You can be immensely proud of yourselves. We have come through some difficult times and a long pandemic, which has created many challenges to overcome. A huge thank you to all the teachers for your tireless efforts to continue to pass on your passion!
The Institut maritime du Québec (IMQ), founded in 1944, is the largest French-language maritime college in Canada. A member of the Écoles nationales network, it provides training in four areas of specialisation: naval architecture, navigation, marine mechanical engineering and operations and supply chain management.
The IMQ is part of the Collège de Rimouski, along with the Cégep de Rimouski and the Centre matapédien d’études collégiales.
