St. Lawrence Seaway traffic through August up 4%

Robust grain shipments have sparked an overall 4% increase in cargo volume to 20.3 million tonnes on the binational St. Lawrence Seaway in the navigation period to end August.

Statistics released by the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation showed cumulative grain traffic up 19% at 6.3 million tonnes. Dry bulk also increased by 10% to 6.5 million tonnes, while coal and iron ore declined respectively by 26% and 2%.

In 2024, the waterway handled 37 million tonnes of bulk and general cargo.
