St. Lawrence Seaway traffic growth tops 4%

Driven by a 28% spike in grain shipments, total cargo transiting the St. Lawrence Seaway increased by 4.1% during the commercial navigation period to end June, reports the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation.

All grain shipments handled by the binational waterway since the late March start of the 2025 season amounted to 4.2 million tonnes – almost one million tonnes above the same period last year. Total traffic was 12.7 million tonnes.

Dry bulk also showed growth, while general cargo, coal, liquid bulk and iron ore were down versus the corresponding period of 2024.
