QSL sharply rejects union allegations of risks by replacement workers handling ammonium nitrate

Robert Bellisle, President and CEO of QSL, has castigated as “erroneous and frivolous” the allegations by the CUPE union representing the locked-out dockers at the Port of Quebec that the use of the replacement workers for the handling of ammonium nitrate involved security risks that could endanger the local populations.  The allegations were published on the Maritime Magazine web platform on September 15.

“In effect, this cargo handling is rigorously framed by the regulations on the transport of dangerous goods (DORS/2001-286) items 6.1b.,” Mr Bellisle said.

“All our replacement operators are duly certified. The handling of dangerous goods is obligingly directly controlled by a supervisor trained TMD, as the regulations demand.

“At QSL, health and security, and the well-being of the communities where we operate constitutes a part of our core values.”
