Quebec City – Ocean Group is adding the Verreault shipyard, located in Les Méchins in the Lower St. Lawrence region, to its participation in Green Marine, the leading voluntary environmental certification program for the maritime industry.
The shipyard is the fourth Ocean Group affiliated company to join the program. Ocean Group Towing and Marine Transportation is one of Green Marine’s founding participants. The organization subsequently certified its Isle-aux-Coudres shipyard, Ocean Industries, in 2012, followed by its affiliated company Ocean Group Marine Works and Dredging in 2022.
“We acquired the Verreault shipyard in 2022, and we are proud now to add this site to the Green Marine certification,” explains Jacques Tanguay, Ocean Group’s President and CEO. “We are committed to integrating environmental practices into our operations, and we know from our experience with the program that Green Marine will provide us with the tools we need to achieve this ambitious goal.”
“We are very pleased to welcome Verreault Shipyard as the first shipyard in Quebec’s Lower St. Lawrence region to join Green Marine,” said David Bolduc, Green Marine President. “Ocean Group’s commitment to completing the certification process for four of its affiliated companies illustrates environmental leadership that we hope will be followed by other marine companies offering a diverse range of services.”
To obtain the Green Marine certification, Ocean Group will assess its shipyard’s environmental performance through indicators that address issues such as greenhouse gases and air pollutants, spill prevention and stormwater management, waste management, and community impacts and relations. Green Marine’s certification process is rigorous and transparent, with results independently verified every two years, and each participant’s performance is made public annually.
