The Halifax Employers Association and the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) have reached a tentative collective labor agreement that runs through 2028. Announced last Friday, it replaces a contract that expired at the start of this year.
Both the Halifax Employers Association (HEA) and the Council of ILA Bargaining Committees unanimously recommend ratification in a joint statement. But specific contract details and wage numbers will remain confidential until union members formally approve the deal.
The tentative agreement covers three ILA locals representing longshore workers, foremen, and walking bosses as well as freight and steamship checkers and gear repair and maintenance workers.
It follows a five-year collective agreement implemented earlier this month covering more than 1,200 dockworkers at the Port of Montreal as a result of arbitration to end a prolonged waterfront dispute disrupting cargo operations in 2024.
