In its latest report on the MSC Baltic III container vessel grounded since February off Newfoundland’s west coast, the Canadian Coast Guard indicated that extreme conditions have provoked “a noticeable change in the condition of the port side of the vessel.”
The MSC Baltic III is currently experiencing sustained, extreme wind and sea conditions. These conditions are preventing all on-water and shoreline operations, the CCG reported last Friday.
The Canadian Coast Guard continues to work closely with the response agency to prepare for a response, if needed, when weather and sea conditions allow.
The salvage crew is reporting some damage to equipment onboard the MSC Baltic III and some debris from the grounded vessel is seen in the water and on the shoreline.
Senior CCG officer Bruce English has predicted the vessel will not likely be removed until next summer, as there was still oil left in the tanks.
