Another ultra-large container ship with a capacity of 24,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) was delivered on September 13 by its builder, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co, according to an article by the China Securities Journal. Ltd, 12 days before the expected delivery date.
Ever Aria is a sister ship to Ever Alot, which was delivered to Chinese shipowner Evergreen in June this year. Both container ships are flagged in Panama and the duo have claimed the title of the largest container ships in the world. They can carry 240,000 tons of freight.
Independently designed by Hudong-Zhonghua, the vessel is 399.99 metres long and 61.5 metres wide and will join her twin on ocean routes from the Far East to Europe.
The ship’s deck covers 24,000 square metres, the equivalent of 3.5 standard football fields. The maximum number of container layers can reach 25, which is equivalent to the height of a 22-story building.
